The Myers Cup is given to the group or club with the most spirit, highest percentage of participating members and dollars raised. The Honors College brought 45 runners, provided 35 volunteers and raised $980. Matts Run, which has become an annual fall tradition, raises money for student scholarships.
A total of 11 teams participated in this year’s run, marking the highest number of teams in the Run’s 10-year history. Greek Life provided volunteers, runners and hosted the after-event BBQ. The Air Force ROTC, Baja SAE, Sigma Chi, the Spanish Language Association and the Awesome Staff Walking Team each had teams of runners/walkers completing the 5K course. The Latino Business Students Association and the Bronco Running Club had both runners and volunteers. While the Amazing Purple Panthers and the Collegiate Entrepreneurs (CEO) Club provided volunteers.
This year, 10 scholarships of $1,000 were awarded to Cal Poly Pomona students, bringing the total number of scholarships to almost 70. Matt’s Run is named after Matthew Myers, a Cal Poly Pomona student who died in 2005.
Almost 600 runners and walkers participated in the 2015 Matt’s Run raising more than $10,000.
